Audio Samples

There are a lot of weird and unusual sounds that you may hear while scanning. This page will not carry the common sounds you may hear on a regular basis like Motorola Control Channels or EDACS Control Channels but will carry the weird and unusual sounds that are not so common known. If you are interested in hearing what common sounds you may hear while scanning I suggest you check out Digital Modes Samples or W2SJW Radio Sounds. If you can identify any of the sounds listed or have a sample to add please let me know. All the sounds are saved in MP3 (56Kbit/sec-44,100 Hz Mono) format.

Type Of Sample Frequency Tone Description
Unknown Data 151.6700 CSQ A lot of taxi companies as well as other companies use this type of data for their terminals in their vehicles. You will find this type of data all over the VHF and UHF band. The exact format or type of data though is unknown to me.

Unknown Data Keyups 417.6000 PL 114.8 This frequency belongs to the United States Postal Service Postal Inspectors in the Dallas-Fort Worth area which in the past I have heard regular analog voice on it. Now if I remember correctly this is a repeater but from this recording it sounds like something was continously kecrunking it.

Unknown Buzzing Tone 451.1000 PL 165.5 This one the best I can describe as a constant buzzing data tone. For the most part the tone is constanst but every so often there is a kerchunk of what could be best described as data being sent.

Unknown Data Keyups 451.2625 CSQ This can be described as some type of rapid data keyups. The data keyups look like they have an on and off pattern that stays pretty constant except the sound of the data bursts change from time to time.

Unknown Data 452.8500 CSQ Another example of the data found on 151.6700 but this one in the UHF band. A lot of taxi companies as well as other companies use this type of data for their terminals in their vehicles. The exact format or type of data though is unknown to me.

Unknown Constant Tone 454.7250 CSQ The frequencies between 454.6750 and 464.9500 belong to the Airphone service. These are Air-To-Ground Telephones found in private aircraft. Ground stations across the US are assigned a channel number which you may find this tone. When the ground station is not in use you will hear this continous tone as I have in my audio sample.

Unknown Idle Marker 935.9875 CSQ Not sure who this belongs to but I am pretty sure that this is some type of idle channel marker. This idle marker tone never changes and can be heard mainly during the nightime and not during the daytime.
